The Central Bank of Brazil, through BCB Resolutions No. 402 and No. 403, is implementing new guidelines for Pix as of November 01, 2024. These changes aim to strengthen transaction security and reduce the incidence of fraud, benefiting both users and the financial system.

One of the main changes recently introduced by these resolutions is the limitation of transactions started in unregistered devices. Now, these transactions can only be carried out for amounts of up to BRL 200, with a daily cap of BRL 1,000, for a higher amount. Therefore, devices should be registered in the banking system, a measure that seeks to protect users from fraud, especially those involving social engineering.

In addition, the resolutions introduce the so-called “Automatic Pix,” a mechanism that will allow recurring payments, such as service subscriptions and monthly payments, as an alternative to automatic debit and the use of credit cards. This innovation, which will be made available to the population on June 16, 2025, promises to bring more convenience and security to users.

For financial institutions, these changes stand as an opportunity to strengthen security and improve the customer experience, for this reason, collaboration between institutions and the Central Bank will be capital to spot and flag fraudulent accounts, ensuring the integrity of the financial system.

Thus, the new Pix guidelines, as established in BCB Resolutions No. 402 and No. 403, display the Central Bank’s commitment to creating a safer and more efficient transaction environment. By protecting users and strengthening the Brazilian banking system, these measures not only increase confidence in the use of Pix, but also boost innovation and competitiveness in the financial sector.
